ABOUT

Dr. Grace Wong is a piano teacher in the Ottawa region. She received her doctorate from the University of Ottawa under the supervision of Dr. Gilles Comeau. Her research focused on posture during piano performance and the effects of the Alexander Technique on posture as applying knowledge of the body to piano playing can help lower the chances of playing-related musculoskeletal disorders Prior to this, she obtained a Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Ottawa, a Graduate Diploma in Piano Pedagogy Research from the University of Ottawa, a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Western Ontario, and an ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Wong has studied with Dr. Chunson Park, John Paul Bracey, Andrew Tunis, and Allison Wiebe. Her research has been published in academic journals including Music & Science, Revue musicale OICRM, and Musicae Scientiae. She has spoken at conferences with the Canadian University Music Society, the Ontario Music Educators’ Association, the Canadian Music Industry Education Committee, the Performing Arts Medicine Association, the Music and Health Research Institute, and has given a workshop with Ottawa Steinway.

She is a current member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association, the Music and Health Research Institute, and the Performing Arts Medicine Association. Dr. Wong is continuing her research with the Music and Health Research Institute at the University of Ottawa and hopes that through both teaching and research to be able to promote not only skilled, but also healthy performance in pianists.

Lessons Students of all ages and levels welcome! Lessons are conducted both in person and online on a one on one basis. Dr. Wong mainly teaches the curriculum outlined by the Royal Conservatory of Music.
